EDR Design Build, a premier Silicon Valley-based residential design-build firm, has been featured in a prominent Italian design publication for its comprehensive restoration of a 1920s Spanish-style villa in San Mateo Park. The project, encompassing approximately 4,000 square feet, represents a meticulous "reassembly" of a historic home to meet the demands of modern family life without compromising its original architectural integrity.
The renovation addressed complex structural and aesthetic challenges, including the remediation of hidden water damage and the harmonization of disparate wood types—mahogany, oak, and eucalyptus—found throughout the original structure. The finished home features an open-concept living area, a primary suite that balances marble and warm wood textures, and architectural arched transitions that facilitate a fluid interior flow.

The feature highlights specific technical achievements, including the use of zenithal light through strategic skylights and the creation of depth via decorative niches. By maintaining the home’s original footprint while completely rethinking the internal layout, EDR Design Build successfully created a dedicated home office and improved "living flows" that had previously hindered the family’s daily experience.
